Ice Wolves, Hawks and Mustangs face off last week

The Nipawin Hawks swept the La Ronge Ice Wolves in a home-and-home while the Ice Wolves also defeated the Melfort Mustangs as teams in the UPL Division faced off last week. 

As of Feb. 9 the Hawks are in second place with a record of 28-14-1-1 with 58 points, 10 points behind the league and division leading Flin Flon Bombers. The Melfort Mustangs are in third place with a record of 18-20-2-2 with 40 points and the Ice Wolves are in fourth place with a record of 8-29-3-1 with 20 points. 

Nipawin swept their home-and-home with the Ice Wolves with a 5-4 win in Air Ronge on Saturday, Feb. 7. 

La Ronge led 2-1 after the first period and the Hawks led 4-3 after the second period. 

Jack Janzen and Sean Shiels each had a pair of goals for the Hawks; the other Nipawin goal came from Finley Radloff. 

Brock Inglis, Gradyen Perozni, Justin Berezniuk and Waylon Gardipy scored for the Ice Wolves. 

Colten Scott made 29 saves for Nipawin; Graham Brown made 27 saves for the Ice Wolves. 

The Hawks opened their home-and-home with the Ice Wolves with a 4-0 shutout win in Nipawin on Friday, Feb. 6. 

Gage Roberts stopped all 26 shots he faced to second his second consecutive shutout. 

Nipawin led 3-0 after the first period and 4-0 after the second period. 

Mason Karokachuk had a pair of goals for Nipawin with Eric Hoiness and Tieran Ryan adding the other Hawks goals. 

Riley Zezel made 36 saves for the Ice Wolves. 

Nipawin opened their week with a 2-0 shutout win over the Weyburn Red Wings in NIpawin on Wednesday, Feb. 4. 

Roberts stopped all 39 shots he faced to record the shutout for the Hawks. 

Nipawin led 1-0 after the first and 2-0 after the second. 

Hawks goals came from Hoiness and  Karokachuk. 

Joey Rocha made 22 saves for the Red Wings. 

The Battlefords North Stars were in Nipawin to face the Hawks on Tuesday, Feb. 10, results were not available for press time. 

The Mustangs swept their two-game set with the Kindersley Klippers in Melfort with a 5-4 shootout win on Saturday, Feb. 7. 

Both Kelan Simmonds and Zaden Sadlemyer scored for the Mustangs in the two-round shootout. 

The Klippers led 1-0 after the first period and the Klippers led 4-2 after the second period. 

Sadlemyer, Jack McHarg, Austin Shepherd and Bo Eisner scored in regulation time for the Mustangs. Shepherd and Eisner mounted the comeback with third period goals for Melfort. 

Brock Evans had a pair of goals for the Klippers in regulation. Other Kindersley regulation time goals came from Bryson Aikens and Rylan Wieler. 
Madden Mulawka made 23 saves for Melfort; Brett O’Halloran made 37 saves for the Klippers. 

Melfort opened their two-game set in Melfort with the Klippers with a 5-2 win over Kindersley on Friday, Feb. 6. 

The game was tied 1-1 after the first period and the Mustangs led 4-2 after the second period. 

Nolan Patterson, Noel Englot, Ethan Hamilton, Carter Bilous and Luke Mackenzie scored for the Mustangs. 

Cobe Perlinger had a pair of goals for the Klippers. 

Kason Kobelka made 34 saves for the Mustangs; Mattias Radke made 26 saves for the Klippers. 

The Mustangs opened their week with a 4-3 loss to the Ice Wolves in Air Ronge on Tuesday, Feb. 3. 

The Ice Wolves led 1-0 after the first period and the game. was tied 3-3 after the second period. 

Sadlemyer, Shepherd and  Bilous scored in the second period for Melfort. 

Dayton Tailfeathers scored the winner for La Ronge 12 minutes into the third period. Other Ice Wolves goals came from Easton Kozak, Theron Watteyne and  Inglis. 

 Kobelka made 10 saves in just over 25 minutes for Melfort before he was replaced by Mulawka who made nine saves. Zezel made 29 saves for La Ronge. 

The Warman Wolverines were in Air Ronge to play the Ice Wolves on Tuesday, Feb. 10, results were not available for press time. 

The Estevan Bruins were in Melfort to play the Mustangs on Wednesday, Feb. 10, results were not available for press time. 

The Mustangs and Humboldt Broncos play in a home-and-home this weekend. The teams meet in Melfort on Friday, Feb. 13 and in Humboldt on Saturday, Feb. 14. 

The Battlefords North Stars are in Air Ronge for a pair of games with the Ice Wolves on Friday, Feb. 13 and Saturday, Feb. 14. 

The Hawks are on a southern road swing and are in Weyburn to face the Red Wings on Saturday, Feb. 13 and in Estevan to play the Bruins on Sunday, Feb. 14.
