Out of the four victories the University of Saskatchewan Huskie hockey teams earned over the Regina Cougars on the weekend, three of them ended with the Dogs recording a shutout.
Taking on the Cougars in a home-and-home series to conclude the 2025 portion of the Canada West season, Friday night had the Huskie men’s team on the road and the women at home, with the opposite happening Saturday.
In their first game on the men’s side, Regina scored the opening goal 11 minutes into the first period, but it was all Saskatchewan after that as they went on a six-goal streak to claim the 6-1 victory.
Chantz Petruic had a pair of goals for the U of S in that game, while teammates Ben Tkachuk, Zackery Somers, Rhett Rhinehart and Raphael Pelletier each had one.
The following night, Jordan Kooy stopped all 28 shots from the Cougars for his first shutout of the season, helping the host team to a 5-0 win. Offensively, Conner Roulette scored back-to-back goals, while Petruic, Chase Bertholet and Josh Pillar each netted singles.
On the women’s side, both U of S goaltenders recorded their second shutouts of the season, with Clara Juca making 20 saves in the Huskies 3-0 win on Friday and Colby Wilson stopping 32 shots on Saturday in the team’s 1-0 victory.
Shelby Williamson, Kaysah Nurani and Kahlen Wisener all scored for Saskatchewan in the first game, while Paris Oleksyn had the lone goal the following night.
Heading into the holiday break, both teams are now third in their respective Canada West East Division standings, with the men boasting an 11-4-1 record and the women sitting 7-6-1-2.
