Hurricanes storm back to tie Mintos at Mac’s Tournament

The Prince Albert Mintos were unable to hold a 3-0 lead on Saturday in Calgary as the Lethbridge Hurricanes came back to force a 3-3 draw in a Pool 1 game at the Mac’s Midget Tournament.

Cole Larocque, who helped to start the comeback in the second period, knotted things up with 3:43 to go in the final frame at Father David Bauer Arena to put both sides at a 1-0-1 record heading into Sunday’s slate of games.

D.J. Tonin had the other goal for the Hurricanes, who received a 17-save showing from Marek Andres.

Chase Pauls and Chase Bertholet had a goal and an assist each for the Mintos, while captain Chase Friedt-Mohr dished out two helpers.

Ashton Ferster also scored and Joel Favreau stopped 29 shots.

The Mintos will return to action at 6:15 p.m. Sunday against the 1-1 AK Bars Academy from Russia.

They will conclude their round-robin slate on Monday afternoon against the Calgary Buffaloes.

Meanwhile, the Beardy’s Blackhawks are tied with the Vancouver NE Chiefs for second place in Pool 5 with a 1-0-1 mark.

Following a wild 6-6 draw with the Chiefs on Thursday, the Blackhawks cruised to a 6-1 win over the Calgary Northstars on Friday night.

Tegan Koehler had four assists in the triumph, which also saw Aaron Lorenz put home two goals.

Cobe Delaney found the back of the net and set up three other goals for the Blackhawks, who also got offensive contributions from Brett Cameron, Nathan Flodell and Trever Sanderson.
