Hawks eliminated as SJHL semifinals set

The Nipawin Hawks were eliminated from contention for the Canterra Seeds Cup with a six-game series loss to the Weyburn Red Wings. 

The Hawks lost Game 6 in Weyburn 5-2 on Monday, March 30 in Weyburn to be eliminated. 

The Red Wings led 2-1 after the first period and 3-1 after the second period. 

Finley Radloff and Noah Heinrich scored for the Hawks. 

Adama Savage Keller, Roan Burgess, Josh Sale and Rylan Pearce responded for the Red Wings. 

Gage Roberts made 30 saves for Nipawin; Joey Rocha made 34 saves for the Red Wings. 

The Red Wings advanced to face the top seeded Flin Flon Bombers in the semifinals. In the other semifinal the Yorkton Terriers are facing the Battlefords North Stars. 

The Flin Flon Bombers earned a split of the opening two games of the SJHL semifinal with a 6-2 win over the Red Wings in Flin Flon on Saturday, April 4. 

Flin Flon led 3-0 after the first period and 4-1 after the second period. 

Connor Miller had a pair of goals for Flin Flon; other Bombers’ goals came from Ryder Knutson, Leo Seitz, Hudson Brehaut and Rhett Ewen. 

Burgess and Callas Pierce responded for the Red Wings. 

Charlie Tritt made 22 saves for the Bombers; Joey Rocha made 25 saves for the Red Wings. 

The Red Wings took a 1-0 series lead in the semifinal with a 2-0 victory over the Bombers in Flin Flon on Good Friday. 

Rocha stopped all 37 shots he faced to record the shutout for Weyburn. 

The game was scoreless after the first period and the Red Wings led 1-0 after the second period. 

Luke Schraeder and  Pierce scored for the Red Wings. 

Tritt made 23 saves for the Bombers. 

The North Stars also earned a split of the first two games of the semifinals with a 3-1 win over the Terriers in Yorkton on Saturday, April 4. 

Yorkton led 1-0 after the first and second periods. 

Finley Klippenstein had a pair of goals for the North Stars and Josh Knittig added the other Battlefords goal into an empty net in the third period comeback. 

Spencer Mishnik made 26 saves for the Battlefords and Callum Creig also made 20 saves for Yorkton. 

The Terriers took a 1-0 lead in the semifinal series with a 3-2 win over the North Stars in Yorkton on Good Friday. 

The North Stars led 1-0 after the first period and 2-1 after the second period. 

Alessio Nardelli and Josh  scored for the North Stars. 

Cash Lanigan, Trae Peterson and Zawatsky responded for the Terriers. 

Kaedan Serpa made 29 saves for the North Stars; Creig made 29 saves for the Battlefords. 

Games 3 and 4 in both series change venues with the Bombers in Weyburn and the Terriers in North Battleford on Tuesday, April 7 and Wednesday, April 8, results were not available for press deadline for both series.
