Hawks continue dominance of Mustangs in Nipawin

The Nipawin Hawks remained perfect at the Centennial Arena against their rival, the Melfort Mustangs last week.  

Nipawin came out on top of their rival Mustangs with a 4-0 shutout win in Nipawin on Friday, Jan. 30.  

Colten Scott stopped all 25 shots he faced to record the shutout for Nipawin. 

Finley Radloff, Braeden Jockims, Brady Seabrook and Sean Shiels scored for the Hawks. 

Madden Mulawka made 30 saves for the Mustangs. 

As of Feb. 2, the Hawks are in second place with a record of 25-13-1-1 with 52 points, a dozen points behind the UPL Division and SJHL leading Flin Flon Bombers. The Mustangs are in third place with a record of 16-19-2-2 with 36 points and the LA Ronge Ice Wolves are in fourth place with a record of 7-27-3-1 with 18 points. 

The Hawks closed their week with a 4-3 loss to the Yorkton Terriers in Yorkton on Sunday, Feb. 1. 

Yorkton led 1-0 after the first period and 2-1 after the second period. 

Mason Karokachuk had a pair of goals for the Hawks with Shiels adding the other Nipawin goal. 

William Leonard had a pair of goals for the Terriers with Gabriel Courchesne and Thomas Ries adding the other Yorkton goals. 

Scott made 20 saves for Nipawin; Callum Creig made 23 saves for Yorkton. 

The Hawks opened their week with a 7-4 loss to the first place Bombers in Nipawin on Tuesday, Jan. 27. 

The game was tied 4-4 after the first period and the Bombers led 6-4 after the second period. 

Ashton Tait, Eric Hoiness, Radloff and Jockims scored for Nipawin. 

Joey Lies had a hat trick and Connor Miller added a pair of goals for the Bombers; other Flin Flon goals came from Hudson Brehaut and Leo Seitz. 

Gage Roberts made 25 saves for Nipawin; Charlie Tritt made 28 saves for the Bombers. 

The Weyburn Red Wings were in Nipawin to face the Hawks on Wednesday, Feb. 4, results were not available for press time. 

The Mustangs game in Melfort with the Weyburn Red Wings in Melfort was postponed due to inclement weather on Saturday, Jan. 31. 

The Mustangs opened their week with a 4-3 win over the Battlefords North Stars in North Battleford on Tuesday, Jan. 27. 

The game was tied 1-1 after the first period, and the Mustangs led 3-2 after the second period. 

Tao Flory, Ethan Hamilton, Noel Englot and Kaleb Binner scored for the Mustangs. 

Kobe Sawyer, Adam Konowalchuk and Kaleb Dewar responded for the North Stars. 

Kason Kobelka made 26 saves for the Mustangs; Spencer Michnik made 35 saves for the North Stars.  

The Mustangs were in Air Ronge to face the Ice Wolves on Tuesday, Feb. 3, results were not available for press time 

In their lone game of the week, the Ice Wolves traveled to Warman and lost 5-4  to the Wolverines. 
Warman led 1-0 after the first period and La Ronge led 2-1 after the second period. 

Dayton Tailfeathers had a pair of goals in the third period for La Ronge; other Ice Wolves goals came from Oliver Christiansen and Theron Watteyne. 

Peyton Allard had a pair of goals for Warman; other Wolverines goals came from Carter Bergen, Oliver Nottingham and Vincent Palmarin, 

Graham Brown made 42 saves for La Ronge; Taye Timmerman made 24 saves for Warman.  

The Hawks and Ice Wolves have a home-and-home this weekend. The teams meet in Nipawin on Friday, Feb.6 and in La Ronge on Saturday, Feb. 7. 

The Kindersley Klippers are in Melfort for a pair of games on Friday, Feb, 6 and Saturday, Feb. 7.
