PA bowler prepares for upcoming national tournament

Later this week Amy Pilon will compete in 21 bowling matches in a three-day span. While that may seem like a lot for the casual bowler, once you get to Pilon’s level it’s just a normal day at the office.

Last year the Prince Albert bowler travelled to British Columbia to compete at the Master Bowlers Association National Championships for the first time. As a 21-year-old she was the youngest member of the provincial ladies’s team.

This year she’s returning to the competition, which is being held in Regina from June 29 to July 3, but she won’t have her teammates to fall back on. This time she’s competing in the singles division.

“I will miss (playing on a team) this year but I’m definitely excited to push myself with singles. It’s not something that I’ve had a lot of experience in so it’s definitely a new challenge for me,” she said.

Pilon won’t be completely on her own. She will be supported on the singles side by Saskatchewan men’s singles bowler Danny Baer. The two competed together in the singles category at the 2015 Youth Bowl Canada nationals and they will be sharing a lane for the duration of the Masters tournament.

“It’ll be nice being on the same lane as him and trying to feed off each other there, as well,” she said.

“I think that’ll definitely help push me and pull me out of those tough situations when I get into it.”
