You don’t need a fishing license to try your hand at angling this weekend.
On July 14 and 15 2018, residents and visitors will be able to fish in any of the provinces public waters open to sport fishing without purchasing a licence.
Although fishing licences won’t be required this weekend, all other regulations, including possession limits, gear restrictions and size limits on some lakes and rivers remain in effect.
Free fishing weekend does not apply in national parks, and anyone planning on taking their catch outside of the province must purchase a licence.
The first free fishing weekend in Saskatchewan was held in the summer of 1989 to encourage participation in sport fishing and increase public awareness about the value and diversity of angling opportunities in the province.
A second, winter free fishing weekend was introduced in 2015.
Each year, about 250,000 people fish in Saskatchewan, including more than 50,000 from outside of the province.
“Saskatchewan offers some of the best freshwater fishing in the world,” Environment Minister Dustin Duncan said.
“Free fishing weekend is a great opportunity for families and visitors to make summer memories at one of our province’s many lakes.”
