To celebrate what was the last day of the 50th Anniversary of the Prince Albert Winter Festival Art Show and Sale, the Mann Art Gallery hosted a special day on Saturday.

The Gallery held a Free Family Art Day with the theme of Landscapes. Mann Art Gallery Manager of Education Lana Wilson said the Art Day is not only open to children but all ages and the Gallery is trying to host one per month.

“We’re very grateful for Community Initiatives Fund to help make that happen,” Wilson said. “Today is very special.”

In February the Gallery tied into the Winter Festival Art Show and Sale for a Free Art Day to make miniature galleries.

“Now, this is a second time for families to experience both the Winter Festival show as well as an art-making opportunity,” Wilson explained. “They made miniature galleries last time. Today, because there is always so much landscape in our Winter Festival Show and Sale, we chose landscape as a theme.”

The available mediums included water colour painting by creating little postcards or building a landscape using plasticine and twigs and pinecones.

“But, of course, we always love it when folks just make things based on their own ideas, and you know what? I am never going to block anyone’s creativity by insisting on the activity,” Wilson said. Wilson added that offering multiple mediums would help people to flex their creative muscles.

“Some people love to have that different inspiration. For the February event, we were using collage and drawing as our primary media. But today, because we want to focus on the three-dimensional as well as the two-dimensional works in Winter Festival, it was nice to be able to offer the painting and clay,” Wilson said.

She explained that the constructing items is a popular choice for this type of activity.

“The top requests that we always get is for there to be a building, a clay sculpture station, and a painting station,” Wilson said. “Everyone loves those things.”
