Federal election nomination period closes with three candidates running in Prince Albert

Daily Herald Staff

Prince Albert voters will have fewer options to choose from when they head to the polls on election day.

Elections Canada closed the nomination period at 2 p.m. local time on Monday with only three candidates registered to run in Prince Albert. That’s down from six in 2021.

Incumbent MP Randy Hoback will represent the Conservatives in his sixth straight election. He was first elected in 2008, and was re-elected in 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2021.

Hoback will run against Virginia Kutzan, who is representing the NDP, and Christopher Hadubiak, who is representing the Liberals. Both are first time candidates. Kutzan is a former nurse, while Hadubiak is a swimming coach and mentor who has worked with the Regina Piranha’s Summer Swim Club.

The Green Party, People’s Party of Canada (PPC) and Maverick Party all ran candidates in Prince Albert in the last federal election. None of the three parties have candidates in 2025.

Hamish Graham represented the Green Party in Prince Albert in 2021. Graham recently ran for the Green Party in Batoche during the 2024 provincial election. He is currently listed as the Green Party candidate for Saskatoon South.

Joseph McCrea represented the PPC in the 2021 election. The party’s website initially listed Francois Blais as their 2025 candidate for Prince Albert. However, Blais’ name was not included on the Elections Canada list, and his biography has been deleted from the PPC website.

Heather Schmitt represented the Maverick Party in 2021. Elections Canada deregistered the Maverick Party of Feb. 28, 2025 after it failed to provide the Registered Party’s Annual Financial Transactions Return and auditor’s report for 2023 as required under the Canada Elections Act.

Election Day is Monday, April 28.
