A 30 year-old woman is dead after the car she was driving was struck by a train while crossing over the train tracks on Highway 312 near Rosthern, according to an RCMP media release.
The crash occurred around 10 a.m. Sunday morning. The train was travelling south at the time.
Three female youths were in the backseat at the time of the crash and were taken to hospital with what were reported to be serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
The female driver was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.
“Further investigation by the Rosthern RCMP determined the rail crossing equipment, including the lights and the bell, appeared operational while police officers were on the scene,” the RCMP said.
The rail line is privately owned.
The investigation is ongoing, according to the release.
