Eight people, including two people in their 50s have died from COVID-19, the province said Friday.

One of the 50-year-olds was from the north west zone and the other from the Regina zone. The remainder of the COVID-19 deaths also came from residents in the Regina zone, including three people in their 60s and one person in the 80-plus age group.

Saskatchewan also reported 213 new cases of COVID-19 Friday. Nine of the new cases were in the North Central, with three in Prince Albert. The bulk of the new cases – 104 – were from the Regina area. There were 148 recoveries Friday to bring that number to 30,449.

The seven-day average of daily new cases is now 186, or 15.2 per 100,000.

Currently there are 155 people in the hospital including 24 in intensive care. Fifty-four of the 133 patients receiving inpatient care are from Regina. Six patients are hospitalized in the north central zone. Two-thirds of COVID ICU patients are from Regina.

Saskatchewan processed 4,6223 cases of COVID-19 Thursday, the highest one-day total since the pandemic began.

So far, 1,155 variants of concern have been found by screening, including 973 in Regina. No additional variants of concern lineage results were available Friday.

An additional 6,941 doses of COVID-19 vaccine were distributed Thursday. Almost 2,000 were administered in the Saskatoon and Central East zones, with 1,217 given in Regina. The North Central Zone only delivered 48 vaccines Thursday.

Bookings for vaccination appointments are currently available for residents aged 62 and older. More than a third of residents over the age of 70 have now received their first dose of vaccine.

On Friday, the Saskatchewan Health Authority reported that the next expected shipment of 21,300 Moderna vaccines will be delayed by up to six days due to a manufacturer delay. Some booked appointments will be impacted. Patients will be contacted directly to reschedule their appointment.
