A tradition dating back over a decade is returning to Carlton Comprehensive High School on Aug. 25 and Aug. 26.
The Crusader Sport Camp is a chance for future students to experience Carlton and the school’s athletic opportunities. The camp is available for students entering Grades 6 through 9 next school year.
“We’re offering flag football, badminton, volleyball and basketball,” Carlton Vice-Principal Rylan Michalchuk said. “(Participants) can sign up for one, two, three or all four. Our current coaches will be leading the sessions along with some of our senior athletes.”
The idea is to have coaches introduce students to some basic game skills in all four sports, followed by some small game activities and some regular games in each sport. Michalchuk also noted that there is a social element that can help students transition to a school as large as Carlton.
“(For) the students who are starting high school with us, it’s a good opportunity for them to meet some other kids that have similar interests in terms of sports from other schools and get to know some of our teachers/coaches a couple of days before the school year starts,” Michalchuk said.
The 2026-2027 School Year will be starting on Wednesday, Sept. 2.
Michalchuk said the camps help introduce students to life at Carlton.
“We want kids to get involved,” he said. “Either join a sport team or a club and make the most out of their school experience. We have lots to offer in that way.”
Students from Saskatchewan Rivers are welcome but Michalchuk said that it is open to students in all school divisions.
“nyone from any school division, we just kind of target those areas. We have a variety of kids coming from different schools in our community and even a few rural (students).”
The registration link is available on the Carlton website and Facebook page. Registration is open until Aug. 25.
The camp starts at 8:15 on Tuesday and Wednesday. Michalchuk said they still have space for more students.
The Crusader Sport Camp is on Aug. 25 and Aug. 26 at Carlton from 8:15 a.m. until 4 p.m.
