For over a year now, our national media political commentators have been “predicting” that Pierre Poilievre would become our next Prime Minister, as his party was leading in the polls by as many as 20 points.
That’s yesterday’s “news”. Today, virtually every poll shows the Conservatives being sucked into the quicksand of irrelevance, as poll after poll now suggests that the Liberals might win as many as 200 seats. On the other hand, the alleged Liberal Enabler Party (aka the NDP) having once been perceived as persona non grata by most pundits (with previous surveys speculating that it might even lose party status), that number now seems to be stabilizing near the 10 per cent mark, and trending upward – finally.
The suddenly “upbeat” tempo in the NDP campaign, largely invisible and silent in its first days is now being buoyed by the release of policies avoiding the “coldness” of the Liberals and Conservatives. The latter two are offering only tax cuts as our salvation from the sub-atomic economic bombs being rained down upon us in the form of tariffs.
Equally important, the NDP is FINALLY starting to take credit away from a Liberal Party only too eager for the passing of programs initiated by the NDP, including Dentalcare, Pharmacare. $10 daycare, as well as CERB relief, while offering new and innovative options for dealing with affordability issues and new home purchasing options based upon social justice principles.
My serious question as to the Canadian radical changing of the public’s reaction to Conservative ideological preferences since the call of this election, is simply this: “Why has it taken voters this long to realize that our nation’s problems aren’t going to resolved by just listening to myriad numbers of the Tory flock whining about the Singh-Trudeau cabal of incompetence, especially when they haven’t a CLUE as to how to frame legislation to FIX issues that the Covid-19 pandemic (NOT the government, BTW, which unfortunately STILL hasn’t brought forward plans on how to deal with future pandemics) has caused us to endure such mental and emotional strife for the last three or so years?”
Seriously – WHAT have the right-wing parties offered by way of “solutions” to Covid relief, save for the following:
- Group hug-ins and mask shredding parties at Trump rallies, resulting in hundreds of deaths weeks later as a result of the spreading of the disease by attendees unaware that they were themselves “carriers”?
- The Karen Krew membership maintaining that vaccine mandates violated the “rights” of their CHILDREN to become sick from diseases society believed were now extinct (measles, mumps, whooping cough, smallpox or even polio) and perhaps die from such needless exposure?
- Watching a group of semi-educated, job-threatened semi-adults turn Ottawa’s downtown streets into sewer streams in what turned out to be a ham-handed attempt to overthrow the federal government?
- Finally, Scott Moe using Canada’s “notwithstanding” clause in order to bar certain men who are born “female” but become “male” at puberty from ever using a men’s washroom for the rest of their lives?
Even though we are “Canadians”, it has taken way too long for us to actually say “Thank you” to the NDP for what we productively got out of this last dysfunctional Parliamentary session. For the past three years we have been fed a never ending, sickening diet of hate and disdain for anything Trudeau or Singh-like coming from Pierre Poilievre and his caucus – and that INCLUDES Prince Albert MP Randy Hoback, who has been taken to task more than once by former Saskatchewan Rivers MLA Lon Borgerson for abusing his right to free postage to provide campaign literature to his constituents instead of reporting on the affairs of Parliament.
Ask yourself, what is the DIFFERENCE between the grainy “Wanted” posters published by the Conservatives portraying Singh and Trudeau as criminals and Trump constantly referring to “the Biden crime family”? Isn’t that akin to your neighbour’s teenage son “showing off” his “cool” Thrush muffler or trunk-encased stereo system as he prowls the block after midnight trying to “impress” your still-awake daughter?
For my part, I think the Trump cultists still eager to vote for Poilievre and now desperately trying to utilize the same tactic to malign Liberal leader Mark Carney have been transformed into just another occupant of the MAGA clown car still unwilling to take down their “F*** Trudeau” flags pretending that if only Trump would take his finger off the “Screw Canada” tariff button until AFTER our election, “true-thinking” Canadians might even take to the idea of becoming “the 51st state”.
To date, the Conservative campaign has gone nowhere in the Maritimes, Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia. Conservative campaign managers see this and are demanding that Poilievre instead focus more upon demonizing Trump, but he can’t – and most likely won’t, because even in his early days as a Reformer, Trump’s ideas sound like music to his Manning-attuned melodic preferences.
Ironically, the Liberals don’t appear to want to spend much time in Saskatchewan campaigning, because for the most part they’re only running “paper” candidates, even here in Prince Albert. Finally, then, Saskatchewan voters will be able to confront the reality that there are only two choices on how to vote: Conservative and joining Poilievre in his embracing of the Trump agenda to follow his coronation – OR the NDP.
