Coronach/Bengough RCMP investigating theft of power pole

The Coronach and Bengough RCMP are asking for the public’s help in locating the suspect who cut down and removed a SaskPower power pole from a rural farm property.
The RCMP were notified of the theft at around 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 27. Investigators say the power pole was connected to a transformer and had a live power supply at the time it was cut down.
Power in the area was disrupted for two hours while SaskPower crews worked to restore service.
The Coronach/Bengough RCMP are actively investigating and ask for the public’s assistance.
Police believe that once the pole was cut down, it was dragged through the farmyard into a field. The power pole was not recovered, so it is possible that it was loaded into a truck and removed from the area.
Cst. Gary Christopher from the Coronach RCMP said the theft created danger to both individual and public safety.
“An abandoned rural property does not necessarily mean utilities are shut down – severe injury or death may occur,” he says. “Additionally, with winter conditions on that day, an action like this puts residents living in the area, and work crews, at risk.”
If anyone has information about this theft, please contact Coronach/Bengough RCMP by dialling 310-RCMP. Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers.
