The Saskatchewan Health Authority says some vaccine appointments could be affected after the federal government announced a delay in the shipment of roughly 600,000 vaccine doses on Friday.
On Sunday, the SHA announced that roughly 21,300 vaccine doses bound for Saskatchewan may not arrive for up to six days. Some patients who have already booked appointments will be impacted, but the SHA doesn’t know exactly how many.
“The SHA is still assessing the full impact, and will notify impacted patients directly next week of their rescheduled appointment,” reads a press release sent out by the organization Sunday morning. “A full list of clinics impacted will be shared on Monday. In the interim, no action is required from patients.”
Bookings for Monday, March 29 remain unchanged.
Canada received 255,600 doses from Moderna on March 24, and federal officials expected to receive another 600,000 doses on Saturday. However, Federal Procurement Minister Anita Anand announced on Friday, March 26 that Canada may not receive those doses until April 1 at the latest.
Anand told reporters the delay would not impact Moderna’s next shipment, which is scheduled to arrive the week of April 5.
