The EA Rawlinson Centre has announced a T-shirt design contest to celebrate the Broadway North Theatre Company’s 30th anniversary.
City of Prince Albert Arts and Culture Manager Judy MacLeod Campbell said they’re looking for a design that will evoke the pride and history of the Broadway North Theatre Program. She said the program has been a source of local talent, personal growth, and opportunity for artists, and deserves to be recognized.
“Really, Broadway North was the impetus for the Rawlinson Centre,” MacLeod Campbell said. “Just hearing about that and how important the facility was and it getting built and the continued legacy of the program—and really importantly I think the addition of the youth program—is huge. It’s very exciting…. Here we are 30 years later and it’s a reason to celebrate.”
MacLeod Campbell said they have several ideas and events in the works to commemorate the 30th anniversary. They decided to do a t-shirt design contest after successfully holding similar calls in the past, like with the City’s Orange Shirt Day and City of Prince Albert Tourism designs.
“Those have been really successful, and we have a lot of local artists, right, and local talent,” MacLeod Campell said.
“It’s been a successful thing in the past. We have a lot of artists in the community, and then I think it’s just one of the pieces. We want to have these t-shirts around town.”
She added that the Broadway North Theatre Company provides Prince Albert with a quality community-based musical theatre production annually that nurtures the talented performers in our city.
Campbell said it’s been fun kind of looking at the timeline and hearing about the history.
Previous City design competitions were posted on Facebook for the public to vote on. MacLeod Campell said they won’t be doing that this time.
A successful design will showcase Broadway North and it’s 30-year history.
“It’s pretty open to the artist to come up with their own creativity and their own design,” she said. “They may want to incorporate past show pictures or components. They might want to consider the previous facility (or) the new facility. Honestly, it’s quite wide-open, other than it has to be related to Broadway North.”
The chosen design will be used on T-shirts that are provided to builders, sponsors, volunteers, and sold to the public. The deadline for submissions is Monday, May 26 at 5 p.m.
