Steve Brown is no longer the city’s finance director.

The news broke Friday. Brown had been in the position since 2016, when Joe Day was ousted.

Mayor Greg Dionne said Brown was a good worker, finding cost-savings and straightening out the books, but the city wanted to go in a different direction. There is an internal candidate that may be tapped to fill the position, he said. There is no timeline on when the city will name a replacement.

With Brown gone, the city is now looking to hire three upper management positions. In addition to director of finance, the search is on for a city solicitor, and a selection committee is seeking a new police chief.

The mayor said Brown’s departure should not affect the city budget or any adjustments needed following the April 10 provincial budget.
