The Management of Chokecherry Productions that gave the Prince Albert Community two evenings of comedy, laughter, fun and joy with their debut play, Vestor the Rescue Dog, donated $2,000 the Prince Albert SPCA.
The cash presentation was made on Feb. 17 at the SPCA office.
Chokecherry Productions representative Hank Ether said the choice of SPCA was not that difficult to make.
“The play was about a dog, Vestor the Rescue Dog, so we thought let’s partner with SPCA and do a fundraiser for the SPCA just because it fits the play so well,” Ethier explained.” We just gave the funds to them. We don’t know what they need, so whatever they want to spend it on is good.”
The SPCA was appreciative of the gift.
“The funds means incredible thing to us,” SPCA Operations Manager Ashlee Bober said. “This year we have had quite a large number of medical cases come through our doors. So to be able to have funds like this from our generous community members its helps us be sure that we can give the animals whatever they need when they come in.”
The Centre spend about $12,000 to $17,000 monthly, on medical bills for the animals that they rescue or cater for.
“It can vary especially for medical bill, from vaccines to surgeries, amputation wound cleaning and so on,” Bober stated. “In 2026 we have seen quite a lot come in with different care needs.”
The SPCA relies heavily on donations from the community for food, bills and other requirements for the animals.
The SPCA also has other fundraisers coming up soon like the Tails and Tunes 80’s Dance that is slated for Mar. 7. Tickets are available for $30 per ticket 0r $ 220 for a table of 8.
While in April, the SPCA’s Sixth Annual Online Auction will be held on April 16-17.
“We say a huge thank you to everybody who has been supporting us,” Bober said. “From Chokechrerry Productions putting on the event, to everybody that attended to generally everybody who supports through sharing the news and everybody that comes in and help. It takes the community to do this. Its only possible by all of us working together, so its very much appreciated.”
Ethier also added that there will be another audition on March 7. The production will be a variety show in May and they are interested in actors and actresses that have little or no stage experience.
Also present for the presentation was Amanda Kipp and Brent Macdonald, President of SPCA.
