A group of parents, wanting to keep their children with special needs home, created Children North in 1985,

This year, the group celebrated their 40th anniversary.

“It began as a support group,” Daina Lapworth, the current director, wrote in a note.

Over the years, Children North has grown to include 10 programs, Early Child Intervention Program (ECIP), for children 0 to five years; Specialized Support, for people six to 17; Mentorship; Family Support: Father Engagement; Pediatric Therapies; Pediatric Diagnostic Outreach Clinic; FASD Northern Advocate; and Inclusion Saskatchewan Norther Advocate.

The programs are run out of the La Ronge centre but available to families in many other northern communities. Children North celebrated their 40th Anniversary with a barbeque for the community for all their support over the years.
