Entrepreneur Cody Demerais takes over as new Chamber of Commerce board chair

The Prince Albert Chamber of Commerce swore in two new board members at their AGM on Thursday.
Megan Evans of MNP and Denzel Smith of Northern Lights Casino will both serve two year terms.
Smith said he’d heard good things about the Chamber from a co-worker, and wanted to be more involved in the community.
“It’s just something I really wanted to get into, and just know more about the business community,” Smith said. “It’s still very new to me…. I’m really excited to learn more about what it all entails and see what I can provide as well.”
Evans is serving her first term on the board. Like Smith, she’s looking forward to taking her new role.
“I’m really excited to be able to join the board of directors,” she said. “I think it will be a great opportunity to work with local businesses and really advocate for them.”
Smith said she doesn’t have a particular subject she wants to advocate for, but said homelessness in Prince Albert has been a big topic among local businesses. She said the Chamber can play a big role in making sure the issue isn’t forgotten.
“The Chamber, I think, is doing really well at advocating for businesses in this aspect and bringing up things that they need help with, such as writing letters to different ministries and different officials in order to make sure that it is top of mind for all of these individuals,” she said.
The Chamber of Commerce also has a new chair this year. Local entrepreneur and motivational speaker Cody Demerais takes over from outgoing chair Brenda Byers.
Demerais did not attend Thursday’s AGM due to a scheduling conflict. He was among 10 Prince Albert community leaders who agreed to take part in the Sanctum 36-hour challenge, which began Thursday morning.
The challenge has community leaders go without basic comforts under the guidance of residents who were previously homeless to shed light on and raise awareness about homelessness in Prince Albert.
The Chamber board still has one vacancy due to the recent resignation of Kamal Singh of Ricky’s Restaurant.
