Late Thursday evening the Saskatchewan Rivers School Division notified the public that the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) has identified a positive COVID-19 case in an individual at W.P. Sandin Public High School in Shellbrook.
“Our thoughts and get-well wishes are extended to this member of our school community and surrounding family; we hope recovery is swift,” director of education Robert Bratvold said.
The division was informed on Thursday evening of the positive COVID-19 test result and communication has been shared with the classrooms/cohorts, the connected staff, as well as the school community.
The SHA will continue to assess the case as they provide contact tracing and communications with all close contacts. According to the release, the students and staff impacted by this case are now required to isolate until further notice and the learning program will continue remotely for those students affected.
As has been the circumstance with other cases in the division, further details will not be shared due to privacy concerns.
W.P. Sandin will remain open for in-person classes for all students that are not required to isolate.
The school’s COVID Response Plan contains many important measures, processes and protocols that add layers of protection for students and staff. School personnel will continue to be informed and guided by Saskatchewan Health Authority as they manage this case.
