Carrot River RCMP have charged a man with attempted murder in relation to a shooting that occurred on Red Earth Cree Nation.
On Mar. 31 at around 5:00 p.m., Carrot River RCMP and Nipawin RCMP received a report of a shooting on Red Earth Cree Nation.
Officers immediately responded and found an injured man. EMS transported him to hospital with injuries described as serious in nature.
Investigators say an altercation occurred between two men outside a residence on Red Earth. During the altercation, one of the men discharged a firearm, injuring the second man. The suspect then fled from the area on foot.
That same evening, a man was arrested on Red Earth Cree Nation by Carrot River RCMP.
As a result of investigation, 24-year-old Floyd Nawakayas from Red Earth is charged with attempted murder, weapons possession contrary to order, possession of a firearm when knowing possession is unauthorized and discharging of firearm with intent.
Nawakayas appeared in court in Nipawin on Apr. 1.He is scheduled to appear next in court in Carrot River on Apr. 9.
