Future students and possible future students who are interested in musical theatre will get an opportunity to learn about it later this month.
Carlton Performing Arts will be presenting a new expanded version of their Musical Theatre Camp on Aug. 25-26 at Carlton Comprehensive High School. Kayleigh Skomorowski of the Carlton Performing Arts department said they wanted to create something similar to the popular sports camps Carlton hosted last year and this year.
The Carlton Summer Sports Camp is running on Aug. 25 and 26 concurrent to the Musical Theatre Camp.
“(It’s the) same sort of ideas as last year, except we expanded to a two-day camp,” Skomorowski explained. “(Last year) we were able to do some singing and dancing and acting, but we just wanted to just increase the quality of opportunity with our kids.”
Skomorowski, who directs the school’s musical each year, will be doing drama and staging. There will also be a singing and choreography sessions.
“The kids will get some dance instruction and some singing and then playing some improv games and then a chance to do some numbers that are singing and dancing at the same time,” Skomorowski explained.
“It’s a chance for kids who have maybe never done musical theatre before to give it a try, as well as for those kids who are your musical theatre aficionados that are just looking for more opportunity to be with their like-minded people with similar interests. It’s a good chance for both of those groups to kind of come together in one sense.”
A registration form is included in the listing on the City of Prince Albert’s Events page and at the Carlton website and a link on the Carlton Facebook page.
“We do accept walk-ups too so they can always register on the spot if they show up that morning,” Skomorowski said.
The Carlton Musical Theatre Camp is on Aug. 25 and Aug. 26 from 8:45 until 4 p.m. at Carlton Comprehensive High School. Skomorowski said that it is open to anyone in the community not just students in Saskatchewan Rivers.
