Canada completes perfect round-robin at World Under-18’s

Quarter-Final match with Czech Republic set for Monday afternoon

Canada will enter the playoffs at the IIHF World Under-18 Hockey Championship as the only team with an unblemished mark.

The national team finished up Group A play on Saturday in Plano, Texas with a 4-0 record following a 5-2 win over Belarus.

Shane Wright (Kingston Frontenacs) and Mason McTavish (Peterborough Petes) both scored twice in the contest, while Olen Zellweger (Everett Silvertips) had a goal and an assist each.

Prince Albert Raiders blueliner Nolan Allan played on the team’s top defensive unit with Brandt Clarke of the Barrie Colts, but was held without a point.

Miroslav Mikhalyov had a pair of assists in the loss for Belarus, which features 2020 Raiders import draft pick Uladzislau Shyla.

Canada’s next game will be on Monday at 2 p.m. as they’ll face the Czech Republic in a quarter-final contest that will be aired on TSN.

The other quarter-final games that day will see Russia face Belarus, Finland take on Switzerland and Sweden go up against the United States.

The semifinals will be held on Wednesday with the gold and bronze medal games slated for Thursday.
