MELFORT — The Melfort Fire Department responded to two calls within minutes of each other during a busy morning on Feb. 28.
According to a social media post from the Melfort Fire Department, crews were first dispatched at 7:10 a.m. to reports of an occupied vehicle in the ditch south of Melfort.
Eleven minutes later, a second call came in requesting assistance with a patient at the local hospital.
At the highway scene, firefighters conducted traffic control and assisted the lone occupant safely out of the vehicle according to the MFD.
“Thank you to our firefighters for juggling both calls this morning,” the department said in the post, also acknowledging support from partner agencies.
The department also thanked the RCMP, EMS and hospital staff for their assistance at both incidents.
Winter road conditions can quickly lead to vehicles sliding into ditches, especially during icy or snowy weather. The MFD advises drivers to slow down, increase following distance and avoid sudden braking or steering when roads are slippery.
