Brett Angus – 2025 recipient of the Order of Gabriel Dumont Bronze Medal

Brett Angus, a student who has just completing his second year of the Northern Saskatchewan Indigenous Teacher Education Program (NSITEP), is a 2025 recipient of the Order of Gabriel Dumont bronze metal

Angus received the medal at NSITEP’s closing barbecue May 28.

“Brett Angus is an upstanding individual who embodies leadership, dedication and strong work ethic,” Sue Carriere said while presenting Angus with his medal. “His commitment to his Metis heritage and Michif language and community speaks volumes to his academic achievement and leadership roles.”

Carriere said Angus embodies academic achievement, having been on the Dean’s Honour Roll since he began his journey with NSITEP. She said Angus embodies a deep commitment to his culture and language while also inspiring his peers.

He manages to balance his studies, his commitment to his community and inspiration of others.

Angus was raised with an understanding of the importance of supporting people and his community he said in an interview with the Northern Advocate. 

He does what he can to support his fellow classmates whether it be offering a ride to school or some tutoring.

With his community, Angus is the president of the Jim Brady Métis local in La Ronge.
