Samantha Becotte has been reelected to a two-year term as President of the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation (STF) the STF announced on Friday.

A vote of councillors from across the province reaffirmed their overwhelming support for Becotte with 90 percent of the votes during the Federation’s 92nd Annual Meeting of Council. Council is the STF’s governance body that is comprised of members of the STF Executive and the approximately 250 councillors who are elected by 27 local teachers’ associations across the province.

“I am grateful for the continued trust of Council,” Becotte, who was first elected President in 2022, said.

“The individual experiences of our members are diverse, but two years of difficult collective bargaining and arbitration have demonstrated our resolve to improve the experiences of teachers and public education and stand up for each other and our profession. We are committed to providing high-quality education to all Saskatchewan students. I look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with members, the STF Executive and administration, education stakeholders, and everyone who cares about public education.”

Becotte was first elected to the Executive in 2015 and served as Vice-President from 2019 until her election as President in 2022. As STF President she is a member of the Canadian Teachers’ Federation Board of Directors. She has previously served as an STF councillor and as a member of the Lloydminster Teachers’ Association Local Implementation and Negotiating Committee. Becotte taught middle school and high school mathematics prior to her election as President in 2022.

Nathan Bromm, Principal at Rocanville School, was reelected to a two-year term as Vice-President.

Bromm has served as Vice-President since 2022. Four members at large were also elected to two-year terms on the Executive Daniel Dion, Association locale des enseignantes et enseignants fransaskois,  Amy Korver, Prairie Spirit Teachers’ Association,  Whitney Paul-Joseph, South East Cornerstone Teachers’ Association  and  Peggy Welter, Prairie Valley Teachers’ Association

The newly elected Executive members begin their terms July 1. They join Micheal Hagel, Chris Kampman, Amy Orth and Crystal Schindel who were elected to Member-at-Large terms in 2024.

“Thank you to all of the candidates who ran for election this year,” Becotte saud.

“The desire to serve your colleagues is a testament to the strength of the teaching profession and the important role played by members in the governance of our Federation. Member voice guides the direction of the STF, and I encourage all members to look for opportunities to contribute to the important work we do on behalf of teachers.”
