The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Prince Albert is inviting the Prince Albert community to a free family event in hopes of sparking 150 acts of kindness.

“Pots and Pansies, Mums and Grandmums” will be held on May 10 at the Prince Albert Heritage Seniors Centre from 1-5 p.m. Attendees are to bring a small flower pot along as they come.
“We wanted to bring together older people and younger people and we have been working with the seniors association to just come together and do something for the community,” said Natasha Thomson, Development Coordinator for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Prince Albert. “We wanted to do another event that was free for the community, and it turned out that our partners did too, so we worked together to make it happen.”

This event will be part of the Mother’s Day weekend. The community is invited to take part in a creative and heartwarming celebration of kindness and connection.

Thomson said the goal is to inspire people to perform more acts of kindness.
“Participants can bring a small pot to paint, plant a flower in some soil, and then just go and give it to a mother or grandmother they don’t know,” she said. “We would love it to be an annual event. If it goes well, we’ll definitely do it again next year.”
This event is made possible by the collaboration between Big Brothers Big Sisters of Prince Albert, the Saskatchewan Seniors Fitness Association – Lakeland District, and the Prince Albert Heritage Seniors Centre, this drop-in event encourages participants to show random acts of kindness to any mum or grandmum.
“We want to show that small acts of kindness, like painting a flower pot or giving someone a flower, can have a big impact,” Thomson said. “It’s just about sharing time and being kind to build a stronger community.”

The participants will have the opportunity to enjoy pot-painting with guidance from Marte’s Art, plant a flower donated by Tunnel Vision Gardens, add some words of kindness to the Happiness Wall, make a handmade card with the Mann Art Gallery, visit the Story Corner supplied by Prince Albert Literacy Network and enjoy free BBQ burgers donated by Arbor Memorial (first-come, first-served—food for 150!).
“This is all about connection across generations,” the Development Coordinator for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Prince Albert said. “We want people to come together, get creative, and spread kindness—one flower, one card, one conversation at a time.”
This event is supported through the City of Prince Albert and the Prince Albert Municipal Cultural Action Plan to help promote cultural goals including lifelong learning, artistic expression, intergenerational engagement, and social inclusion.
