The Battlefords RCMP have arrested a 24-year-old man from Red Pheasant Cree Nation accused of attempting to flee police on a snowmobile after allegedly shooting at a residence.
Officers were called to the First Nation at around 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 14 following reports that an armed man was in an altercation with a security guard. Police say the suspect fled by vehicle, leading officers to search the area.
At around 7:10 p.m., officers received a report that a man on a snowmobile had shot at a residence on Red Pheasant. The officers responded immediately and found a man with a gun on a snowmobile.
The driver tried to discard the gun and flee after the officers attempted a traffic stop, police say. He was arrested at the scene.
Investigators say the man was also involved in the earlier altercation.
As a result of continued investigation, 24-year-old Mackenzie Wahobin from Red Pheasant Cree Nation has been charged with flight from peace officer, uttering threats, discharge of firearm with intent, possession of weapon contrary to order, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a firearm with a tampered serial number, careless use of a firearm, operation of a conveyance while prohibited, possession of a prohibited weapon when knowing possession is unauthorized and unlicensed possession of a prohibited weapon with ammunition.
Wahobin appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on Feb. 16.
