An art exhibition hangs on the Pixels at 20 Paces art wall in Marker 47 Café in La Ronge honouring National Child Day for the month of November.

The exhibit was created through an Art Program at Alex Robertson Public Library, also in La Ronge, with leadership from local artist, Annalisa Heppner.

Three main questions are highlighted in the presentation: “Is every child in your community given the same chance to learn, explore and dream? What rights do you think children in your community must struggle to have recognized? Have you asked a child about a decision that affected them?

Some rights that are written out, for a bottom border to the exhibit including: “All children have rights. Let’s learn about your rights, … The world is a beautiful place, filled with rivers, lakes, trees, flowers and wildlife I have the right to enjoy it … I have the right to a safe home … I have lots of ideas. I have the right to share them, … We have to love and care for this beautiful world,” … I have a right to learn and the right to be curious,” reads the display.

National Child Day is celebrated annual on Nov. 20 and it is rooted in the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of the Child (adopted Nov. 20, 1959) and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (adopted Nov. 20, 1989).

Quotes used in the exhibit are taken from Learning My Rights with Mousewoman, written and illustrated by Morgan Asoyuf.
