The Crown has consented to the release of a man facing manslaughter charges for a Pelican Narrows killing.

Brennan Lee Cook was set to be freed from jail on Thursday, after appearing briefly by video in Prince Albert’s provincial courthouse. He emerged on screen wearing a rosary, and stood quietly with his hands threaded together.

The RCMP arrested Cook on July 31 after an investigation into the death of a 25-year-old man just days before. The man, who police say was known to the accused, was airlifted to a Saskatoon hospital after an altercation outside a business in Pelican Narrows. He later succumbed to his injuries.

Cook’s mother was in the courtroom as Judge Morin read out the conditions of his release. He will have to reside in her residence in Southend under a curfew and abstain from drugs and alcohol. He is also forbidden from possessing firearms.

His next court date is set for October 3 in Pelican Narrows.
