More the 500 dancers from across North America attend 18th annual Northern Lights Casino Thanksgiving Powwow
Hockey players aren’t the only ones who get to show off their moves at the Art Hauser Centre.
This weekend the arena played host to the 18th annual Northern Lights Casino Thanksgiving Powwow.
The event kicked off on Saturday morning with a pipe ceremony, followed by registration and a drum roll call. The powwow grand entry took place shortly after noon as dancers of all ages and dance styles filled the floor, the sounds of drumming, singing and jingling filling the air.
Next special guests and dignitaries were welcomed, starting with flag bearers, elders and veterans. Remarks were made by Prince Albert Grand Council Grand Chief Ron Michel, Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations vice-chief Heather Bear, Prince Albert Mayor Greg Dionne and Northern Lights Casino Powwow chair Richard Ahenakew.
