After acquiring Noah Gregor and Dante Hannoun from the Victoria Royals last season, the Prince Albert Raiders have made another trade with the BC Division side.
The defending Western Hockey League champions picked up 18-year-old defenceman Remy Aquilon from the Royals on Wednesday in exchange for a seventh round pick in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft.
“Remy is a real nice skater and we’re excited to add him to our roster,” Raiders general manager Curtis Hunt said in a prepared statement.
“He fits a need in an age group that we don’t have. He can contribute in all three zones and we look forward to seeing him in a Raider sweater.”
The Kelowna, B.C. product, who was signed by the Royals as an undrafted player in 2017, had four assists in 50 games last season.
He also played in 15 playoff games over the last two campaigns.
Before the trade, the Raiders announced that they had released 2000-born blueliners Konrad Belcourt and Loeden Schaufler.
Belcourt, who had a goal in seven games for the Raiders last year, spent the majority of the 2018-19 campaign with the AJHL’s Fort McMurray Oil Barons and had 20 points in 47 games.
Schaufler, who was acquired from the Seattle Thunderbirds at the trade deadline in January, had two assists in 16 games for the Raiders and dressed in six playoff games.
The Raiders will return to action Friday for a pre-season contest against the Regina Pats at the Brandt Centre.
They will conclude their exhibition slate against the Pats in a 7 p.m. matchup at the Art Hauser Centre Saturday.
