The Ministry of Corrections and Policing and SGI have contributed a total of $2.7 million to the Prince Albert Police Service.
The Ministry of Corrections and Policing is funding 20 existing positions with $2.2 million through Municipal Police Grants.
This supports enhanced community policing programs and the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit–which responds to gang activity–as well as the Missing Persons Task Force.
“Municipal Police Grants allow us to do more to proactively address threats to public safety as we work toward the shared goal of reducing crime,” said police Chief Jon Bergen in a news release.
“These grants enhance resources to police agencies so that we partner on important initiatives in a timely manner to help protect our communities.”
SGI also provided $540,000 for three more positions as part of the Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan initiative.
