A member of the Montreal Lake RCMP was assaulted by the driver of a stopped vehicle while conducting a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon.
The member had just arrested the adult woman passenger and placed her in an RCMP vehicle when the assault occurred.
The RCMP member suffered minor injuries as the adult man driver left the scene.
A low-speed pursuit was authorized along Highway 979 with assistance from members of the Prince Albert, Waskesiu and La Ronge RCMP, along with the Prince Albert Police Dog Section.
At one point, as the suspect vehicle attempted to avoid a spike belt, another RCMP member suffered minor injuries after being dragged briefly alongside the suspect vehicle.
After attempting to ram another RCMP vehicle, the driver was forced off the road and the vehicle immobilized.
The driver exited the vehicle and was apprehended immediately by the Prince Albert PDS members, suffering dog bite injuries in the process.
