A wonderful evening of fellowship, eating and presentation of awards was enjoyed by all at the last meeting of the Prince Albert Lions for this season.

They will now recess, from meetings only, and reconvene in the fall. This year was especially important as we had five new members join our Lions Club. They all work at Save On Foods and we are very, very happy to have them join us. More hands make less work for everyone.

We welcome Alicia Robinson, Alex Speckman, Levon Charter, Chelsea Kiss and Warren McGlone as full members of the Prince Albert Lions Club.
The evening began with a fabulous meal and was immediately followed by the induction of our newest members.

All new members were inducted by Past District Governor Jim Wilm who is also a member of the Prince Albert Lions Club. Our President, Lion Garry Beaudry then presented 100% attendance awards to more than 90% of our club members as well as an engraved Lions Clock being presented to our treasurer, Lion Linda Enequist who has held the position for the last nine years and a gift of a letter opener and key chain presented to Lion Jim Wilm who has served as secretary of the club for a number of years. Lion Garry Beaudry was presented with a Marvin Chambers Fellowship for the excellent leadership he has shown to the club for the past year.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation to the Lion of Year, Lion Randy Braaten who has gone above and beyond in everything he has undertaken on behalf of the club.
This year Lion Randy was nominated and elected to the position of Zone chairman which means he is now responsible for eight Lions clubs and one lion’ls club in his zone. This means that Lion Randy will be visiting each club at least once during the year, attending all Governor’s visits and holding zone meetings as required. Lion Randy has also agreed to take on the chairmanship of the Operation Red Nose Program which takes place each year in the festive season towards the end of November, throughout the whole month of December and ending on New Years Eve.

Lion Randy also serves as Lions Clubs International Foundation Director on behalf of the club and will be attending all Cabinet meetings in this coming year. Lion Randy has also taken on chairman of the Mega Cash Raffle which is in conjunction with the Saskatoon Downtown Lions Club. The tickets have already been on sale and will continue to be sold at outlets throughout the City and during the week of the Exhibition in Prince Albert. Also a very major position at the local level as Treasurer of the Prince Albert Lions Club will keep Lion Randy busy.

Lion Randy is also a very major part of the Convention Committee for the Multiple District 5 Convention which is being held in Prince Albert on May 23 – 25, 2019. The Multiple District is made up of Lions clubs from North Dakota, South Dakota and Saskatchewan so we are expecting a large number of visitors to the City at that time. Lion Randy also participated as a club member to deliver poinsettia’s to the seniors homes at Christmas time, serving supper to our visually impaired clients in the City at the annual Christmas Supper, working just about every bingo held in the name of Prince Albert Lions as well as any other jobs that he is asked to do.

There truly is no Lion that better deserves this award than Randy. Congratulations Randy.
