Police used a taser against a woman suspected of overdosing Tuesday, after she confronted them brandishing scissors.
Parkland Ambulance was treating the 30-year-old woman for a suspected overdose at an East Flat address. According to a police press release, she became violent with paramedics. Police arrived at the scene at 3:48 p.m. Upon their arrival, she confronted them with a pair of scissors and raised them “in an aggressive manner.”
An officer responded by deploying his conductive energy device, more commonly known as a Taser. Officers placed the suspect in handcuffs. Paramedics brought her to the hospital.
Police say that neither the woman nor the officer were injured. The Taser, they said, “immediately ended the threat to all.” The woman was kept overnight in hospital, given concerns over a potential overdose, and then released.
She is charged with assaulting a police officer and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
