The fire department sent one engine to a burning porta-potty near Arthur Pechey School on Sunday.
Firefighters caught word of the blaze at about 9:30 p.m. When they arrived at the school, they found a portable toilet “fully involved” in flames. No injuries were reported, but firefighters were unable to save the porta-potty.
A few masses of charred plastic, crusted onto the school parking lot, are all that remain.
Fire department officials declined to comment on whether the fire is an arson, or whether they are conducting an investigation.
Alanna Adamko, spokesperson for the Prince Albert Police Service, said there is no record that police officers were ever dispatched to the site of the blaze. She did suggest, however, that the fire could fairly be described as “suspicious.”
It’s the second time in recent weeks that the fire department has reported a burning porta-potty at a local school. In the early morning hours of May 21, firefighters extinguished a similar fire near the football field at St. Mary’s.
In that case, as well, the porta-potty was destroyed.
