A short ceremony is planned in Prince Albert Saturday to mark the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge.
The nation celebrated the centennial of the landmark battle last Saturday, April 9. A contingent of Indigenous veterans from the area made the trip to France to pay their respects.
Another local veteran, whose father fought at the battle, was also involved in Ottawa’s ceremony.
The local service is being organized by Marie Mathers.
“To me, it means a lot,” she said, “because of family that fought there.”
The ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the City Hall cenotaph. The short ceremony will have a colour party, invocation and the laying of wreaths. A reception will follow at the legion.
“Everybody is invited,” Mathers said.
