New P.A. Box Lacrosse Association uniforms recognize Prince Albert’s past
Members of the Prince Albert Box Lacrosse Association (PABLA) will be wearing new uniforms this coming season with team names reflecting Prince Albert’s history.
PABLA made the announcement at a uniform unveiling at the Alfred Jenkins Field House on Wednesday night. The teams will be called the Prince Albert 82’s, Prince Albert Fort, Prince Albert Trappers, Prince Albert Lumberjax, Prince Albert Smoke Jumpers and Prince Albert Rivermen.
PABLA president Tyson Fetch, who is also a teacher at Wesmor Public High School, said he felt it was important to choose historically significant team names and designs because he feels that there is a “lack of knowledge of our history in the city,” which can only be corrected by people actively seeking out that knowledge at local museums.
“As an educator, I think it’s important to educate as well as have sporting events,” he said.
This year PABLA held a vote to determine whether to name its teams after animals or historical references. When the later was chosen, Fetch was then tasked with coming up with names.
“I spent many hours in the museum. I went for a few tours,” he said.
