A nearby resident is calling for more stringent security measures at the Victoria Hospital after witnessing a violent altercation Friday afternoon.
According to Sandra Klarenbach, she was accompanying her father to Victoria Hospital for some tests Friday afternoon when a distraught man sat down beside her in the emergency room.
When contacted by the Herald, Prince Albert Parkland Health Region spokesperson Doug Dahl said they are aware of a rise in the number of incidents recently at the Victoria Hospital.
“We have noticed that there has been an increase in the number of incidents of violence or threats of violence at the hospital,” he said.
“It is particularly around the emergency department, but there has been incidents in other areas of the facility as well.”
Dahl said the health region has taken a number of steps to try to increase safety at the hospital.
“We’ve moved the security office to a more prominent position by the main entrance. We used to have two entrances … now everybody comes through the main entrance,” he explained.
“It’s one less way people come into the hospital to try to make sure everybody is going past security.”
