Saskatoon band Bombargo played their third ever Prince Albert gig on Saturday. For lead singer Nathan Thoen, it’s just another visit back home.
In a packed Rock Trout Café, Thoen could see his old guitar teacher. His piano teacher was there too. So were his mom and dad.
Those people, and the city he left behind, are still a big part of his music.
“I feel like in every song I write, I draw inspiration from my childhood and from PA,” he said.
Saturday’s set list came mostly came from their upcoming album, due out in a month or so. Thoen, guitarist Spencer Chilliak and bassist Graham Tilsley were recently in Toronto discussing the release with a record label.
But they started off the night with a tune from their first album, which Chilliak and Thoen wrote and released before ever playing a show.
Actually, they’d just met.
