P.A. theatre director switches from comedy to drama for upcoming production
Maureen Pepper was first introduced to the 1958 Edward Albee play The Zoo Story around 10 years ago. The Prince Albert theatre director said she’s been keeping that play on the shelf… until now.
“I’ve been doing quite a few comedies and I wanted to do a drama, so that in itself I found quite challenging,” Pepper said.
“With comedy you’ve got laughter over lines and people are familiar with things and so they’re able to laugh more easily, whereas drama hits an emotion that people often don’t want to go to. So it’s just harder all the way around.”
Pepper is bringing the play to the stage with P.A.’s SmokeScreen productions. The drama will be performed at the John M. Cuelenaere Public Library’s Mahon Auditorium for two nights on Friday, Nov. 4 and Saturday, Nov. 5.
