Local health worker and educator to hold interactive talk on diabetes awareness
Registered nurse Jan Cochrane says more people are learning about diabetes, but that influx of awareness can also lead to an influx of misinformation.
Cochrane, who is also a certified diabetes educator, is hoping to dispel some of the myths and correct misconceptions regarding diabetes at an upcoming speaking engagement at the John M. Cuelenaere Public Library.
On Tuesday, Oct. 18, Cochrane is leading an “Explore Lifelong Learning” session called All You Wanted to Know about Diabetes but Was Afraid to Ask. The interactive discussion will cover issues including diabetes risks and management, as well as the condition known as prediabetes, which is when blood sugar levels are elevated, but not to the point of being diagnosed as diabetes.
“I’m passionate about addressing diabetes and now we can recognize when people are in a prediabetes stage and hopefully help to prevent them from progressing or slow down the process,” she said.
