PAFD reminds residents to check their smoke detectors during Fire Prevention Week
This week the Prince Albert Fire Department (PAFD) is reminding residents “Don’t wait, check the date” on their smoke detectors.
That’s the slogan for this year’s Fire Prevention Week, an annual awareness campaign put on by the American National Fire Prevention Association. The organization is encouraging people to replace their smoke detectors every 10 years.
“We’ve been doing (Fire Prevention Week) for as long as I can remember. Since I’ve been in the life safety division we’ve been participating actively,” PAFD Inspector Dave Davies said.
“People usually don’t remember or think fire safety until it happens to them and it’s too late. So if we can remind them before the event happens, there’s a potential for less fatalities, less injuries and less fire damage.”
