A 17-year-old male discharged bear spray on an off duty officer this weekend.
According to the Prince Albert Police service a 17-year-old male is facing charges following an incident where an off-duty member of the Prince Albert Police Service was the victim of a bear spray incident over the weekend.
At approximately 6:40 p.m. on Oct. 25, members of the Prince Albert Police Service were dispatched to the area of 6th Avenue and 22nd Street East for a weapons call.
Initial information stated a male discharged bear spray at another male.
Upon arrival, on-duty officers located an off-duty member of the Prince Albert Police Service on scene where he had detained a male in the 600 block of 22nd Street East.
Officers quickly learned the off-duty member was the victim of the bear spray incident and he was treated by Parkland Ambulance paramedics for what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect was quickly arrested without further incident.
Through further investigation, officers learned the off-duty officer was driving when the suspect ran across the street. The off-duty officers rolled down their window to speak with the male when the male allegedly discharged bear spray into the vehicle.
At that time the off-duty officer exited his vehicle and detained the suspect until police arrived on scene.
As a result, the 17-year-old male has been charged with possession of a weapon and assault with a weapon. The 17-year-old Male appeared in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Monday.
