He’s been a long-time advocate for patients and physicians, and now the Victoria Hospital Foundation will be honouring him for his work at the 2019 Doctor’s Gala.
On Friday, the foundation officially unveiled that Dr. Stan Oleksinski would be the guest of honour for the annual gala. Oleksinski began practicing medicine in Prince Albert in the mid-1980s, and served as president of the Saskatchewan Medical Association (SMA).
Victoria Hospital Foundation CEO Sherry Buckler said they were impressed by his dedication to Prince Albert’s medical community.
“He really exemplifies and embodies all of the values that our gala communicates and stands for: philanthropy and commitment to our local community,” Buckler said. “He’s definitely a wonderful candidate and we’re very honoured to be honouring him next April.”
In addition to his advocacy work with the SMA, Oleksinski also helped international or newly graduated physicians establish themselves in the city. He also donated thousands of volunteer hours to community projects, many of them involving the Victoria Hospital.
“What impressed our foundation is the amount of time that he’s dedicated outside of his medical practice to mentoring new physicians or with events where we have to raise money,” Buckler said. “He’s a very big supporter of the Victoria Hospital. He stands by it and has for many years.”
Oleksinski is the fourth physician to be honoured at the foundation’s annual gala. The 2018 gala honoured Dr. Randall Friesen and raised roughly $70,000 for the Victoria Hospital Foundation. The funds were used to purchase transonic equipment of the hospital’s dialysis ward.
The 2019 gala is scheduled for April 6. Tickets go on sale in January.
