For the Prince Albert Venice House Pirates, this weekend will mark the first major showcase for the Bantam AA program this season.

The SBAAHL team will be making their way down to Regina to take part in the Graham Tuer Bantam AA Challenge Tournament, which will see 30 teams from across Western Canada compete from Thursday to Sunday.

The Pirates, who are in Pool C, begin play at 12:50 p.m. Thursday against the Saskatoon Stallions.

They will then face the Regina Aces at 8:05 p.m. that night before going up against the Estevan Bruins Friday at 3:15 p.m.

The Pirates are coming off of two games this past week in league play, as they dropped a 2-1 overtime affair to the Saskatoon Outlaws last Tuesday at the Rod Hamm Arena and followed that up with a 4-3 home triumph Thursday against the Battlefords Barons at the Kinsmen Arena.

Zach Svenson scored twice for the Pirates against the Barons, while Roper Blanchard had a goal and an assist each.

Tanner Howe also lit the lamp for the hosts, who received a 20-save showing from Nicolas Jensen.

Kobie Anderson and Matthew Dament paced the offence for the Barons with a goal and an assist each.

Dallyn Peekeekoot rounded the scoring in the loss, while Ty Shumanski made 24 saves.

In their overtime loss to the Outlaws, Travis Swanson tied the game up with 51 seconds left in the third period for the Pirates, only to see Reid Andresen give the hosts the win in the extra frame.

Frank Chaboyer had an impressive evening in goal for the visitors as he turned aside 35 shots.

Berkly Catton had the other goal for the Outlaws, who received a 25 save showing from Sam Fritz.

The next league game for the Pirates, who are currently tied for fourth in the North Division with a 3-2-1-1 mark, will be at the Kinsmen Arena on Saturday, Nov. 3 as they’ll take on the Melville Millionaires at 3:45 p.m.
